It's Clathrus columnatus

Otherwise known as Deadman's Fingers. It's a fungus that looks like a small egg. When it busts open, it smells like rotting flesh. Lovely. I gagged a number of times. Flies are obviously attracted to it. They ingest the spores and poop them out all over the world. Even lovelier. If you find them, catch them in the egg-like phase and pluck them out of the ground. They don't stink at that point. Talk about yuck.
